Whats up guys? I have a 1985 Honda Trx 250 and it needs a better exhaust. I have already decided that im gonna get the cobra exhaust, but I can't figure out which would be best. There is the Utility series, which is made for just that; a utility atv. Then there is the Quiet series, which is the same as the utility, but wthout a spark arrestor. My atv goes through loads of water every day and the last two exhausts that I mentioned both have fairly small hole and it is angled down. Then the one that i am leaning towards is the Megaphone series. It says it improves flow and performance with a tapered steel cone, but the only drawback is that the hole is like twice as big as the stock one, or the other two. I want the improved performance, but I don't want to risk the backflow of water into the exhaust.
Valid concerns. I think I would seriously consider a model exhaust that did not have packing. Water tends to shorten the life of packing from what I understand. But that's up to you. I think you will find the biggest difference in the pipes will be the sound. Sure it stands to reason that a larger hole offers more opportunity for water to get in, but if you are running in levels that high, you should probably also consider a snorkeled exhaust. Otherwise, I don't think the size of the exhaust outlet should be too much concern except when cleaning. So long as you don't stall while submerged (and hopefully you have an airbox snorkel) you will be ok. If you do stall while submerged any size hole is bad.
Thanks Battlegun. Ive been hunting for a snorkel kit for this old beater, but there aren't any. Ill just fab one myself. See, I put swamp lites in back and afterburners in front. After I put them on, I noticed an ever so slight power loss, and was hopin to gain some back from the exhaust. I just put a K&N on it, but as you yourself said in another post its the "Inhale" "Exhale" concept. I was also kinda considering jetting. Your opinon?

I am not familiar with your machine, but I assume it is a regular clutch. If it were a CVT, there would many options to gain that power back. Being that you run in a lot of water, I would be hesitant to open the air box. You might try jetting, but if you haven't opened the airbox and added a high-flow exhaust, then I doubt you will accomplish anything other than fouling plugs. With a manual clutch, my advise is limited to straight up power mods. Perhaps some of our more mechanically inclined members will chime in and offer some advise.

HMF makes an exhaust they call the Swamp Series. It is stainless and also comes with a snorkel which you can attach to get the exhaust out of the water.
