power steering failure question

What happens when the power steering fails? I am talking specifically about the electric power steering on the Rancher. Does it affect anything other than the ease of turning. Can you still turn? Does it steer like a 4wheeler with no power steering? I am concerned about the power steering going out out on the trail, a long way from home and getting back to the truck.

I cannot speak personally about the Honda, but when the electric power steering fails on the Yamaha Grizzly it functions just like a model unequipped with electronic power steering. The only time I have heard of any negative effects was when the rider tore a CV boot and was causing the EPS to apply more force. I think that for the most part, the power steering is extremely reliable on all the ATV's equipped today.

Although I can relate to wildcat's concern, I have to admit I've not heard of many problems with the EPS systems (on any quad). I think the most common problem I've read about was a "twitch". If memory serves me right, this was easily fixed with some dielectric grease on some connections somewhere.

I do know that the "hardcore" GNCC races are burning them up. They usually chuck em' and get a Precision Racing stabilizer.
