I need help choosing a sport atv

Hey guys I'm new to this form and got on here to get yalls opinion, I'm 18 5'10" 170 pounds if that makes a difference and have been riding fourwheelers all my life well since I was 5. But all I have owned is a utility, even though I ride my cuzins sport quad a bit. I have alot of time on utility atv and a little on sports but I am wanting to buy me one so I can give his back to him lol. We ride in some pretty rough spots in the woods and in some rutted out spots to so I'm pretty sure ground clearance is a good thing. We only do woods riding most of it technical and thick woods no racing and I want something to cut up on a little but Nothing that will kill me. So wondering if yall can help me out plus our average ride is around 23 miles so I need somethig to last that long! Any help at all is greatly appreciated because I don't know much about the sport quads because I don't check on them like I do the utilities

For what you describe I would rate them:

1. Polaris Outlaw. KTM 525 motor is the best in the industry, and independent rear suspension for more ground clearance.

2. Honda 700 XX. A 700cc motor that is almost as quick as the KTM 500cc motor, also with independent rear suspension . Bigger in size, and heavier than the Outlaw, which makes it a little less appealing.

3. Yamaha Raptor 700. A good strong torquey motor, great handling, reliable, lightweight, and fun to ride. Solid rear axle decreases ground clearance relative to the Honda and Polaris.

4. Any of the 450s. Smaller, lighter, better handling, and faster than the big bores. Perhaps a bit too hyper for someones first sport quad, and not best suited for woods riding in my opinion (although they win their share of GNCC races).

Thanks man. So no 450's for me, I was looking at the outlaw 500 just because I don't need all The power and there will be some hill climbs and I don't want the thing to come up and over on me

Based on what you just described you may want to look at the Honda 700XX. The extra weight may ad benefits on hill climbs in holding down the front.

I thought the 700 XX had a five speed transmission with a manual clutch, just like any sport quad. Did they change them, or am I just wrong?

Oh I'm sory I thought he put kfx 700 by kawi but do u think the 700 will have a lil to much power, the weight isn't a proble I can take a light quad up a hill I just don't want to hit the clutch and the thing stand up when I'm on the hill plus they ars so big and bulky

I think it's all in what you get used to. I think the 700xx would be more forgiving for basic trail riding.

The 700 XX would not have too much power. Its a Honda, and will have about the same power as other brands 500cc machines. But it will be built very well, have great quality components from head to tow, and will be reliable and go forever. I would consider owning one if we didn't need 4x4 for the trails I do.
