Re: Rox risers / Fasst Flexx handlebars

Well if I had to do it again, between Rnethal FATBARS and Solex, I would go with whatever was cheaper as the ride is the same for both. I know Solex is pushed a lot, but I just can't tell a difference personally.

Re: Rox risers / Fasst Flexx handlebars

Actually .... that's exacting what I did. The Pro Taper were cheaper than the Solex .... So .......

And I don't see a lot of other brand fat bars at any of the shops I stopped at. (I went to six different ones)

But I would love to try a set of the Fast Flexx bars 3TV told us all about.

Re: Rox risers / Fasst Flexx handlebars

I went with the Flexx bars because I knew they worked well from prior experience. It isn't the sweep or rise of the bars that make them work so well, its the "flex" that makes them better than other brands I've tried. The ends of the bars actually flex up and down when riding fast over rough terrain. But what is really happening is that the ATV itself is pitching back and forth over the rough terrain, and the rider and his hands on the handlebars can stay in the same place, with the ATV moving underneath them. It makes a big difference. Actually it makes more of a difference on a sport quad with a solid rear axle, because they can really pitch back and forth on a rough cross country course. The fully independent suspension of a sport ute already takes some of the pitching back and forth out of the equation, but the flex bars help eliminate the rest.

In years worth of desert racing I learned that some mods make more of a difference than others when it comes to endurance races. Adding 3 to 5 HP with an aftermarket exhaust may not improve your finishing position at all in a 100 mile race. Dialing in the suspension and handling can make a big difference though. I went from finishing 5th or 6th place in local desert races to a 2nd place finish at an AMA National desert race when I upgraded to Ohlins shocks on a DS 650. Suspension and handling win cross country races, not power. And improving rider comfort, while decreasing rider fatigue also make big differences in racing, and also for just aggressive trail riding (play racing with your buddies). I had a YFZ 450 that I put a Precision steering stabilizer on, and that allowed for a huge increase in speed over rough terrain. The Grizzly doesn't need a steering stabilizer as much because the EPS does that function for the most part. But other sport ute ATVs would certainly be helped by a steering stabilizer. I also put an slightly longer, and position adjustable thumb throttle on the YFZ 450, and that made a big difference. One other thing I did was install a slightly longer clutch actuating arm, which made the clutch pull feathery light. I had put a full FMF exhaust on the YFZ as well, but I really think the little things like Fasst Flexx bars, the steering stabilizer, the throttle lever, and the clutch actuating arm improved the capabilities of the quad more than the exhaust did, because they improved the capabilities of the rider.

Anyway, sorry for the side track. Just pointing out that mods like handlebars, controls, levers, etc. can make a big difference.

Re: Rox risers / Fasst Flexx handlebars

I totally agree with your comments 3TV .... or as I like to say .... HELL YEAH !!!!!

Years ago I did the same things (Clutch, suspension) on my Banshee when I was racing it. Made a big difference. Wish I had tried some better handlegars too.

Oh well .... I've got some pretty good bars on the Grizz now .... maybe I'll get a set of "Great" bars next !!!! ... .... Hell ..... I might even try some aftermarket shocks (Now those ARE pricey )

From all the talk on the forums about new bars difference, I went ahead and ordered the Renthals just so I could have new bars and feel the difference. Once I installed the Rnethals, I loved them. The next day, Solex bars shipped. When they came in, I had to swap to try the Solex bars. I found no difference but wasn't willing to swap everything back out for nothing and go back to Rnethal. I still have the Renthals in the box and tried to sell them but wasn't succesful for an unknown reason. I was willing to sell them at a severe discount but have about decided to just give them to YBUgly rather than selling them for dirt. However, it's up to whether he'll buy risers or not. If not, they're still for sale. They're the same height and angle as Solex.

I'm running 5" powermadd black risers. Both bars ride and perform identically without a doubt although I know Solex are more popular. Still, no difference that I could find. From a ride comfort standpoint, bars and risers are the best impreovement I've seen. However, i do think because of cable length, you have to go with 3.5" risers on a 660 where you can go with a 5" riser on a 700.

Mack, didn't you try a 5" on yours and the cables were too short?

Buster
Yes i tried 5'' risers on my 450 and the cables barely fit. And when i turned the throttle bind and would gas up. I really need like 4'' risers or somethin like that but i'll live with 3.5
