800 polaris

hello everyone! i have a 2007 polaris sportman 800. i went riding saturday night and went through some water without any problem. when i got home, i started rinsing it off. when i got half way through, it cut off. i fininshed rinsing it and tried to restart it. it turns over but seems to not be getting any fuel. the next day i checked the codes and it had 21, 51 and 52 error codes. i have checked all fuses, and unplugged all the plugs i could find and tried blowing them out. i somehow got it to start one time. when i turned it off, i checked the codes again and had none. i tried to start it again and have not had any success since. it has the same error codes as before and code 45 now, as well. i hope someone can give me some advice on what to do. i only have 293 miles on it. thanks in advance for any help!

Daryl, since you said that when it was running and you rinsed it off, it cut off, that insinuates that you wet a connector that has caused the problem. Do you have any idea what area of the quad you were rinsing when it cut off as this may give you an idea of the area that got wet? If you can recall this particular area, then I would suggest finding any connector close by, pulling it apart, skeeting it with either WD-40 or an electrical connection cleaner, then shooting it with dielectric grease and putting it back together.

This will give you a better idea of what may be going on and possibly solve your problem. If you do what I have suggested and the problem isn't resolved, then we have a starting point. However, since you said that when you were rinsing it off, the problem occurred, then it implies the problem is water-based and probably connection-based.

Please give us more feedback after doing that.

Daryl ... also, I believe somewhere on this forum, you should be able to locate a service manual for your bike ... or if there isn't one here to download, you can go on E-bay & get one. I would think those codes would be there to troubleshoot the exact meaning of the code numbers you had .... I tried a web search & couldn't find anything.

You might be able to go down to the local Polaris dealer & ask the service department ... maybe they'l tell ya what all those code numbers mean.

And like B-Dub wrote ... let us know what ya find out & how ya got it fixed

ok. i'm not getting any fire and the codes that i'm getting now are 45 and 21. i"ve checked all plugs that i could find, and now i"m not getting any 51 and 52 codes.

ok guys, now i'm only getting code 45 and still not getting any fire. could it be one of the relays or the coil gone bad. not sure where the wires to the coil is going, because the wires are so packed in there. looks like they may be going to the relay. may have to take it apart more to find out. got to get something to eat and go to bed now. i'll check some more tomorrow.

That's a lot codes to run down .... sounds like, and I'm by no means an electical expert, but I wonder if something got fired when it got wwet ??

Ya know, these manufacturers should really build their machines to be in water ...... there is no way a guy should have that much trouble from just hosing his bike down ..... or even tak'in it for a swim .... IMHO !!! ...

yeah guys, that sounds like a little more than a wet connector. Dont get me wrong, I won't be surprised if it's just water some where, but that's alot of different codes. I'd focus more on the main brain. I've had water issue's in the past, but once you dry it out the problem is gone. Good luck with this one. I feel your pain.
