Renegade 500 or 800 - Suspension

First, a little background. I am new to ATVing and I am having a hard time deciding between quads. I had a Wolverine 450 that I enjoyed but I am now looking for something with a little more engine and 4 way suspension. All my web research has lead me to the Renegade. To my surprise it seems like the 500 is a good mix between power/speed and agility. I have seen several forums stating that the 800 is too much engine for the chassis? My goal is not to go 60mph in the woods. Good to hear that some people have this talent, I don't) I am also concerned about the stock suspension on the 500?

Looking for someone who has ridden' both quads (500 and 800) and can give me an honest opinion. I am leaning towards the 500 but concerned I may be making the wrong decision. Should my weight factor into the equation?

A little background about me...
Inexperienced Trail Rider that attempts to keep up with dirt-bikes (No plans to jump this 620lbs quad)
6'1 295 pounds (Yes, bigger guy)

Side note: Looking for comfortable chest protection. I feel like the chest protectors are made for skinnier people (At-least they fit me that way.) Any help here?

Thanks, in advanced, for anyone willing to help me.

Welcome to the site!

First, I can't tell you about differences in the 500/800 suspension, HOWEVER, I can tell you my opinion on the power. I completely understand your concern about too much power, but believe me, the more you ride and the more experience you get, the more and more you are going to wish you had the power of the 800. Just because the quad has the ability to be driven like a pro doesn't mean it has to. That extra power can come in handy when taking hills, mud, or even the holeshot. I really encourage you to go with the 800, especially being a large framed person, you will appreciate that extra power. I have the 800 Outlander and I can poke along with kids or I can muscle around with the big boys. Hopefully someone will chime in who has riden both and can comment on the suspension of the 500/800.

As for the chest protection, what brands have you tried? I agree that most brands tend to have their items fitted for the smaller framed body and it is frustrating finding gear that fits. I'm a large frame guy at 72" and 230lbs so I share your frustration in this.
