when is a programmer necessary?

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of the copycat mod of Stray's air box cover, I see there are companies out there that cut a big triangle out of the cover and replace it with similar material (EHS racing), you have to buy the cover modified. I don't know if the Gade is ready for that, anyways I was going to do the UNI filter, but don't know if there is anything else I could do for air flow, or what the '09 Gade mod is for the 4-5 extra ponies. I'm probbly going to get the full Muzzy system. (thanks Stray,GrizWiz). At that point, I've ra that I'll be sickningly lean, I did a little research and the Dynojet pc III is probably the way I'll go, but want to know how hard it is to tune that thing, without any techinal training? This is probably a newbie question, but I don't want to destroy anything, at the same time I want to get in there and see what I can/have to do.. any info and replies are greatly appreciated, thanks guys!

The PCIII is fine if you have some sort of background or experience with open loop and closed loop EFI systems. You will need a laptop to program the maps which can be downloaded from Dynojet. Since DJ only has 1 real map available for an aftermarket exhaust sytstem, programming may be time consuming and frankly a pain in the arse.

The GenIII programmers from EHS Racing work great as well as the controllers from Muzzy's. They are much easier to program and use similar logic to tuning a carburetor. Plus you can program everything on the fly.

You are correct, by adding more air, you will run much leaner. Any by adding more fuel, you will add more HP and Torque.

Thanks guys. I found out last night, I don't need to do these power mods to the girl. The wife needs to get a feel for the power before I bolt on any more ponies. Going to get a 2010... BUT i will still snorkle, and I like the Airbox mod of Strays, it just makes sense, going to leave the exhaust stock too. I shouldn't need a programmer for that little bit of extra intke air, should I? again any info would be appreciated, Thanks guys

Only way you will know if you need a programmer is once you complete the mods, do some plug chops.
