Very thorough Phil and it seems like overall, you are pleased with the purchase. Again, time will tell. I'm with you and everyone else though about the single lever braking. Stupid. BRP did that on one year of the Renegade 800 and quickly removed it. I can understand a manufacturer wanting to do something for safety on a quad that a novice might be buying, but do most REALLY inexperienced riders go out and buy either a Renegade 800 or a TCat 1000 of all things. I dunno, I'm sure that are some stupid folks that would but I can't imagine it myself. I think I would have to get some conversion kit for that if one was available.

Out of curiosity and maybe you said this and I missed it. How does it handle compared to the Grizzly. I know your talked about articulation and all, but I'm curious about normal trail riding maneuverability, tire push, etc.

With no sway bars the Tcat is more sensitive to suspension settings than a typical utility ATV is. Arctic Cat compensates for lack of sway bars with stiffer suspension settings. Adjusting the preload just one click makes a big difference with ride height and handling with this ATV. I've got it dialed in reasonably well at this point, but want to put a few more rides in before doing a real reveiw. Just in brief though, the Tcat does some things better than other ATVs I've owned (climbing), and does some things worse than other ATVs I've owned (cornering).

Yes. The Arctic Cat was to be my wife's ATV, and I was going to trade my '09 Renegade 800 for a '10 Renegade 800 X Xc. My wife did not like the rather poor handling of the ThunderCat, especially when she would change back and forth between the new Renegade and the ThunderCat. Given a choice, she would choose the Rengade every time. And if I were given a choice between my '09 Renegade 800 that we still owned, and the new ThunderCat, I would choose my old Renegade every time. We could have sold either my '09 Renegade or the ThunderCat, and chose to sell the ThunderCat.

I also had some reliability concerns with the ThunderCat. When the ATV had just over 100 miles on the odometer the CVT belt blew apart, leaving me stranded. Luckily I was just a short distance away from the truck on that occaision. But a good share of my ATV riding is done solo, in the middle of nowhere, where walking out is just not an option. I don't want search and rescue to find my cold dead body someday, just because my ATV broke down.

The CVT belt was replaced under warranty at no cost, but a warranty wont get you home when your ATV breaks down.

Understandable! Nothing wrong with the 09' and 10' gades thats for sure. I'm sure someone will grab the Thundercat and be very happy.
